Public Works Department

Richland Township employs a full-time Public Works Department consisting of the Public Works Director and seven highly trained and competent employees, which include an in-house mechanic. The Township is responsible for 70.2 miles of Township roads and contracts with PADOT for winter maintenance on 14.51 linear miles and 29.02 lane miles of state roads within Township boundaries. The Public Works Department provides street sweeping services, highway maintenance and repair, snow removal, storm drainage installation, and maintenance, road sign installation, signal maintenance and public facilities maintenance, such as public buildings, parks, and playgrounds. The department is also responsible for leaf and grass pickup and composting as a recycling service to the community.

The Township maintains an updated equipment fleet with the establishment of a Capital Equipment Fund, which consists of a grader, backhoe, two front-end loaders, sweeper, chipper, roller, numerous trucks, plows and spreaders, as well as other major pieces of maintenance equipment at the Department facility.
